This charcoal drawing depicts the path to the high-level platform at Tamworth Railway Station, where trains depart for Birmingham. Although the original Victorian station was demolished and rebuilt in the 1960s, features like the supporting pillars remain; their dark stone construction contrasting sharply with the plain pale brickwork of the newer construction. The staircase to platform 4 – at the end of the platform, located around the corner and out of immediate view – contributes to an atmosphere of subtle unease as one approaches.
